Install-layer
MF OS
A hardened, deterministic, single-purpose system image that turns hardware or a VPS into an appliance running MF Core. Not a new Linux distribution and not a consumer product on its own.

Delivery
Replaces the manual DevOps path — base OS, PostgreSQL, nginx, TLS automation, TURN, firewall, secrets, systemd units — with one image and a small first-run wizard.
Reduced attack surface
Strips the upstream base to only what MF Core, MXKeys, the Apps Gateway, nginx, PostgreSQL and the built-in TURN require. Anything not needed by the product is removed.
Where it sits
- Hardware / VPS — any x86-64 host or cloud instance.
- MF OS — delivery layer and hardened base.
- MF Core — the homeserver, admin portal and user portal.
- Matrix Family — the end-user surfaces (web, desktop, mobile).
MF OS removes operations work from the operator: flash an image, answer a short wizard, and the result is a working Matrix Family server.
